Egypt’s Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry began a high-profile visit to the United States on 30th of November, amidst the latter’s ongoing political transition. Shoukry is reported to have met several senior political figures, in a trip aimed at establishing cordial relations with the incoming Republican administration.

Sisi has been a vocal backer of Trump, with officials in Cairo of the belief that the President elect’s brazen tone and overt business persona will be more conducive to Egypt-U.S. relations. The two’s meeting in New York in September set an amiable precedent and it is believed both men largely agree on a host of other issues from the Iran deal to the war in Syria (Al Monitor, 10.11.2016).
