President Buhari’s first calendar year in office has undoubtedly been a test of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader’s resolve, following a year of significant highs in 2015. While cautious optimism was expressed by both domestic and foreign commentators following the former Military Head of State’s impressive rise to power, much of this lustre has fallen by the wayside as Buhari’s approval rating has plummeted throughout 2016. While it is widely regarded that Buhari faced an uphill battle when he assumed office, his progress to date has been rather underwhelming – and has most conspicuously lacked a sense of urgency – prompting many supporters to question their initial support for the President.
